12. Pangbourne to Goring

At Whitchurch there is the Thames Path’s longest diversion from the riverside and the only steep climb. This is because the towpath stays on the right bank until Gatehampton where the ferry has ceased to operate. The high walk is in woodland with views down on to the towpath before the river turns north to Goring Gap.

Goring: The Catherine Wheel, Station Road. Tue 4-10pm; Wed-Sun 12-10pm. Food Wed-Sun lunchtime and evening except Sun. evening. (Turn inland at ferry point just before bridge and follow road ahead for 0.25 mile passing St John Barleycorn.)
